SOFTWARE: ERDC has developed a software program to assist in the design and implementation of conceptual ecological models. The software streamlines the process of constructing conceptual models for project developers who already incorporate them into the planning process, and offers a standard structure in which to design and build them. The software allows those less familiar with conceptual ecological models to improve their projects by quickly and efficiently incorporating this recommended element into the planning and implementation process.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
At this time, CEMCAT may only be installed on Windows-based PCs. It has been tested with Vista and Windows XP operating systems on 32 bit (x86) machines only, and may not function or install correctly on newer (e.g., Windows 7) operating systems or on 64 bit machines.

TO GET STARTED:
In order to accomodate users with varying degrees of administrative privileges, CEMCAT may be run in one of two ways, outlined below. The install method is the preferred method choice if possible.

1. Install Method. If successful, this method will install CEMCAT as a program on your PC. To install CEMCAT, navigate to the "Install_Folder" on this CD, and click "setup.exe". An installation window will open and guide you through the process. If given an option, opt to run the setup program as yourself (the user), not as an admin. Once installed, CEMCAT may be accessed from the program list of the Start Menu (users may also create a desktop shortcut by right-clicking the program in this list). If you later wish to remove CEMCAT, you may do so using the Add/Remove Programs tool from the Start Menu Control Panel.

2. Direct Copy Method. In this method, CEMCAT is not actually installed on your PC, but is run as an executable. Copy the entire "Direct_Run_Folder" on this CD to the location of your choice on your PC. You may rename this folder if desired. It is highly recommended you then right-click on the "CEMCAT" program icon (e.g., "Application" file type, .exe extension) within this folder and "Send to Desktop" to create a desktop shortcut. The correct file may also be identified by its CEMCAT logo (shown at the top of this page, a silhouette of a human head with an Earth image inside). CEMCAT may then be opened at any time from the desktop by clicking the created shortcut, but will not appear in your program list. To remove, delete the entire copied folder; de-installation is not required.
